Sidewinder
1996 Nettwerk

Ok, last Network post for now. This Skinny Puppy side project supergroup grew out of jam sessions held by cEvin Key & Dwayne Goettel. At times very noisy, at all times very cool. Haujobb remixes the epic “Attallal”, a nice crunchy re-mix of “Sidewinder” and a few non-album tracks adorn this masterpiece. One of my favourite album covers by the infamous Dave McKean.
  1. Sidewinder (Re-mix)
  2. Glassblower (Re-mix)
  3. Base Metal (Re-mix)
  4. Chalice
  5. Shemaesin
  6. Im5
  7. Attallal (Re-mix By Haujobb)
  8. Lenge T'agn

                                                      Hilt ‎– Get Stuck

                                                      Hilt
                                                      Get Stuck
                                                      1989 Nettwerk

One of the many Skinny Puppy side projects or should I say cEvin Key side projects. I read somewhere that it was a more palatable Skinny Puppy with punker Alan Nelson on vocal duty versus Ogre, not sure if I’d agree but I love it. Fun story about the cover art, had the pleasure of talking to Steven about his work and this one came up. He explained what better way to represent “Get Stuck” than the worlds largest baby… Brilliant, Ralph’s face says it all. Two non album tracks make this a must have.
                                                      1. Get Stuck (Extended)
                                                      2. Septic (Remix)
                                                      3. Liquid Sole Shoe
                                                      4. No Crak On Junk St.

I could spend hours talking about Skinny Puppy and how brilliant they are. I used to make my girlfriends watch Ain't It Dead Yet (VHS - yes I'm old) on our second date. If they ran out screaming, it wasn’t meant to be. I did find one that stayed and she’s put up with me for… 26 years now. This was the first single and it makes me smile when I walk by it framed on the wall in my office. Dig that Inferno Gustave.

Something amazing about the industrial touch to the electronic style that makes these guys pretty unique. Chris Connelly (Finitribe/REVCO/ETC) had a hand in adjusting their sound on their 2nd release Consumed, where this excellent single comes from.

                                                                                                                                                                                  1994 Nettwerk

More good stuff from Nettwerk. I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of Papa Brittle and this is the only release I own. Why do you ask? Jack Dangers is in charge of mixes of 1-3 and he doesn’t disappoint. Have you ever heard anything bad by Meat Beat Manifesto? The Westminster Dub Mix sounds like a missing track from Satyricon.
                                                                                                                                                                                  1. Status Quo (MBM Political Psychosis MJ Edit)

So now that I dove into the Nettwerk stash I’m going to have a hard time leaving. I honestly have not pulled out Severed Heads in a long time. But after ripping this and promptly throwing in Rotund For Success I’m kicking myself a bit. Great industrial synth-pop that fit perfectly among the brilliant Nettwerk roster at the time. Can you hear a bit of fellow Volition label mates Boxcar in the song? I’ve always wondered what that is on the cover and why? Pinecone?

Hell With The Lid Off is one of my all time favourites, in fact it’s framed on my wall. Partly because the artwork was done by my friend & idol Steven Gilmore (wish he had done this single) - other part, its a frickin’ cool-ass album! One of the most unique albums you’ll ever hear, all the songs are brilliant. This single gives you two non-album versions of the funky title track and the exclusive Revolution 10. Nettwerk was killing it during this time period.
