So now that I dove into the Nettwerk stash I’m going to have a hard time leaving. I honestly have not pulled out Severed Heads in a long time. But after ripping this and promptly throwing in Rotund For Success I’m kicking myself a bit. Great industrial synth-pop that fit perfectly among the brilliant Nettwerk roster at the time. Can you hear a bit of fellow Volition label mates Boxcar in the song? I’ve always wondered what that is on the cover and why? Pinecone?

So Shelf & I were discussing good ol’ Mark Griffin a couple days ago. Hell With The Lid Off is one of my all time favourites, in fact it’s framed on my wall. Partly because the artwork was done by my friend & idol Steven Gilmore (wish he had done this single) - other part, its a frickin’ cool-ass album! One of the most unique albums you’ll ever hear, all the songs are brilliant. This single gives you two non-album versions of the funky title track and the exclusive Revolution 10. Nettwerk was killing it during this time period.

Over to Belgium for #10. A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular is one of the greatest albums ever in my opinion. Blue Wonder Power Milk being very close to as brilliant in a less James Bond way. Not as enamored with their current sound vs the Liesje Sadonius & Geike Arnaert eras but it’s still well done. By the way, Club Montepulciano was a critically acclaimed and long-running lounge and cabaret club-night that ran themed events across a number of venues in London. Which is where the inspiration came from for this song.

As promised, a little Spooky. Had a tough time deciding which release to post. Charlie & Duncan cover a lot of styles from breakbeat/techno to downtempo, and all of it is spectacular. Bamboo is from their 2nd release Found Sound. Similar in ways to my beloved Autechre but a bit more… dare I say “fun”? The iconic track Little Bullet is featured here as it’s live version which is by far my favourite. There will be more from these guys for sure.

Although I do enjoy his Involver releases I pray for Airdrawndagger 2 (same line-up of course). Big fan of May’s Spooky project as well, I’ll go dig out one of those to share next.

Ah Trip Hop… I will always have a soft spot for that genre. Although I wouldn’t consider Archive to be that genre anymore, they always produce great songs. I discovered them from the compilation Massive Beats 2 (which is in the cue to share) showcasing their track So Few Words. Big Fish is a brilliant “b-side” that should have been on the Take My Head album, but most are right? Beloved artwork by the folks at INTRO. When you find some free time go check out their short film AXIOM, it's top shelf.

Let’s stay in warp mode for #4. As mentioned, I was a Warp junkie in the 90’s. This EP by Richard And Chris (get it?) sums up in 25 minutes of electro-wizardry why. They never released enough for me but their catalogue is genius. To this day on heavy rotation in the house. Probably will see more from them here including their producers project “Cherry Bomb” someday.

Picked up “Frozen” after seeing the video for “Coast is Clear” (on 120 Minutes I can only assume). It blew me away, Dean with the killer sounds and Toni with the voice. Everything they did was good and love Dean’s current work under SPC ECO. These tracks were recorded for the John Peel Show and most appear in radically different forms to the original versions. Apparently “Coast Is Clear” was written especially for the session (the day before) so it's still in its embryonic stage.

Never would have guessed the first post would have been The Cure huh? It seems that most of my Cure gems/rarities have been posted but I didn’t see this one. Appropriately the very first Cure bootleg CD and first bootleg I bought after heading off to college. I believe it was the first place “Descent” was available. What a great song.
