Classic late 90's ambient electronic music. Biophon Records first release so if you think it may sound like Geir Jenssen (Biosphere) you are correct. Not quite as sophisticated as Geir but Espen Sommer Eide does come through with flying ambient colours. I honestly had forgotten I had this because it's packaged in a 65 lb. cover, single fold 7" square with an unglued flap holding the CD - Needless to say it vanishes in between box sets. Not the best packaging to show off but fun size and design for "BIO 1 CD". Limited to only 500 copies.

I have to share a proud dad moment which prompted this post. Last weekend we were headed out to my daughters football (soccer) match. We have our "pre-match" playlist (which maybe someday I'll compile and post) that we religiously play each time starting with Fluke's "Atom Bomb". Anyway, we were running behind and traffic was awful as usual so I was late cueing up the playlist. She asks if she can just play a song and grabs the old iPod. Moments later FLA's "Blood" starts pumping through the speakers. Looked back, smiled and said "I can almost guarantee you are the only 15 year old that cued up Front Line Assembly in the state" then reminded her how much I loved her... For you Boo!

A little Hardcore Techno from 1991. One of the hundreds of Aliases of Danny van Wauwe and Jos Borremans. Never released a full length album and only a few single under this title but Night in Motion was a memorable song from my Rave days. Some fantastic piano melodies and violins that were trademarks of techno at that time. And if you wanted to know where that sample comes from, it's J.R. Funk & The Love Machine - Party Time!

D-saw is one of André Winter many Aliases. He is a German producer, dj and musician based in Hamburg. You've probably come across one of his remixes for Underworld, D.H.S., Chemical Brothers or another in your electronic music catalogues. Although he is still making good tunes to this day on the Senso Sounds label, I'm pulling this from the good ol days of the Superstition catalogue. Unfortunately the only D-Saw release I have but it's pure treasure for techno heads.

Had something else planned until last night I was introducing my sons upcoming hip-hop artist & friends to some essential "classics". 
Daum Bentley aka Freaky Chakra emerged from San Francisco in 1993. A part of what put Astralwerks on the map for some top west coast electronic outfits among others. It also guaranteed me buying anything they released (for a while). I've never understood why this wasn't more popular. I absolutely love this song and all the mixes. It has Toni Halliday singing!!! How can you not love her? Plus assistance from Single Cell Orchestra (track 5) and the late Mike Kandel of Tranquility Bass providing the "Scathing Guitar Licks". You should enjoy this one.

Have been enjoying revisiting Grand Central Records catalogue as of late. Aim (Andy Turner) teams up with GCR owner Mark Rae’s cousin, Kate Rogers. Sail contains samples from two classics "Swamp" by Maynard Ferguson and "It Hurts So Good" performed by Millie Jackson - Andy is a master at “trip-hoping” the old stuff! The Rae & Christian Remix is one of the best I’ve ever heard.

I was back in Las Vegas a few weeks ago and stopped by a local record shop and found this little compilation from Hypnotic. This sub-label of Cleopatra was pretty killer in the 90’s with electronic music giving us a mix of Trance, Goa & some Industrial. Their compilations were plentiful but hit-or-miss (I stopped collecting them because of that) and I did enjoy the lenticular cover fad they started. They had some of the big guns (FSOL, System 7, Juno Reactor) and some lesser knowns that sometimes surprised me but often felt it was all a bit vanilla. This is a pretty good one - let me know what you think.

Let’s keep the Goa thing going… Ben Watkins aka Juno Reactor has worked with a multitude of artists including Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), Budgie (The Creatures/Siouxsie and the Banshees), Eduardo Niebla & Traci Lords to name a few. On Conga Fury he teams up with the South African percussion act Amampondo. The result… a fast paced tribal masterpiece with killer percussion. Add on a couple tremendous remixes of tracks from the brilliant Beyond the Infinite and you got yourself a righteous single. Remember that Liu Kang VS Jade Battle?

Spewing from the Somerset space rock band Ozric Tentacles, the duo of Merv Pepler & Joie Hinton were my first introduction to the Planet Dog label. Since then I've always thought they were the apex of Sci-Fi Goa Trance and still spin Implant on a monthly basis in the home studio. Taking their name came from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (so cool), they span many forms of dance music & showcase great energy & creativity. They also have an abundance of side projects and exclusive mixes out there for our pleasure. These days Pepler continues the Eat Static brand as a solo project after Hinton left in 2008. This US Mammoth release contains the Lost In Time single from 1993 which is brilliant.

I remember grabbing it at a Hastings in New Mexico of all places after being thoroughly disappointed in their selection of electronic music back in 98. Wanted to get something Bowie up in January to pay homage to his birthday but I’m slow these days. Bowie’s catalogue is fairly easily available so hopefully this is something not everyone has. I’m partial to the “Loving the Alien” mix by Scumfrog (so brilliant), but there are some fun & catchy mixes here. Converted the video from the enhanced disc and did my best to match the level to the rest of the tracks as a bonus. Still so sad that he is no longer with us…
